China Film Review

Stumbled onto the China Film Journal via Danwei and popped it onto my RSS reader after checking out three articles. The site design is pretty awful, but the content is excellent. There’s lot of it, they’re covering small local stuff that’s newsworthy but doesn’t otherwise make the news, and they’re not afraid to speak their minds against pablum in defense of meaningful public discourse.
Definitely worth checking out. Would love to see Adso on the Chinese so they can stop the irritating habit of translating every proper Chinese name into English.

Sorry to hear you think the design is awful…actually, the wordpress template you are using is quite nice, but too many peple are using it…in any case, I believe that you called us “China Film Review” but in fact we are “China Film Journal.” Thanks for taking a look though. I’m a sucker for stock photos and template layouts. This photo actually reminds me of 紫竹园 in Beijing though - which is why I’ve kept it. Used to run there a lot when I was procrastinating from actual work.
Your picture reminds ME of 未名湖 in Beida. I actually convinced myself that that was where it’s from…
